The Cadcatz

For more than 20 years now, the Cadcatz have been on the road with Rock’n’Roll and Rockabilly, and have made a name of themselves through many gigs at clubs, parties and festivals throughout Europe as well as through a number of releases on records, CDs and compilations that have been very successful in the Rock'n'Roll scene.

They present Rockabilly, Rock'n'Roll as well as Surf instrumentals in the sound of the 50s and early 60s. They are still well-known from the 1993 CD "Rockabilly Party", especially in Augsburg (Germany), where their "Your baby tonight" from the 1989 EP "Many Miles" became a local hit which was played by many Augsburg radio stations in the A-rotation (i.e. every hour).

With songs by artists such as Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, Dick Dale, Link Wray as well as a number of self-penned songs their blend of Rockabilly, Rock’n’Roll and Surf guarantees a tremendous party atmosphere at their concerts. The Cadcatz style is characterized especially by the varied rhythms and a "Shadows"-like guitar sound.

Their latest CD, "The Drifter", contains 13 previously unreleased songs, 8 of which were recorded for the CD in 1999 - including one live track - and 5 songs which were recorded as early as in 1995. On this CD the band mixes Rock’n’Roll, Rockabilly and Surf for the first time. Apart from typical Rockbilly/Rock'n'Roll tunes that have been characteristic for the Cadcatz, the new CD also contains Surf instrumentals as they are known, for example, from the movie "Pulp Fiction". At the time of the recordings for the CD, this new mixture was also a result of the changed line-up. The bass player Helmut Reith (Schuffi) and the drummer Walter Güldenpfennig (Tex) had left the band in 1998 to join other bands (e.g. The Cadillac Cowboys).

The guitarist Axel Schuch then built up the new band and broadened the range of styles. The drummer Wolfgang Braun, ex-member of the "Unemployed Ministers" joined the band, which was then completed by Gerhard Rampp, who played the double-bass and the bass guitar.

Some time ago, however, the latter two left the band. Today the band plays shows from time to time with the original line-up. Axel also pursues a solo project under the name "Ace Shawn".
